CoDesign of better spaces and places — introductory training

Introductory Training - Learn the CoDesign approach to creating amazing spaces and places.

CoDesign will work with a select group of people to undertake induction and training in CoDesign methodologies and practice. CoDesign will draw from their experience of community development, Pop-Ups, rapid urban revitalisation, participatory design and working with "hard-to-reach" groups in this 3 hour workshop.

The CoDesign approach is award-winning, demonstrably achieves better outcomes in shorter time, and unique. This is a rare opportunity for professionals in the Midwest to learn:

  • Why use a CoDesign approach and what's different,
  • Case studies of CoDesign in action, and the outcomes from Australia, Asia, cities and regional areas,
  • What specific tools, techniques and methods are used in different contexts,
  • How to apply this to open space projects currently underway or in planning, that workshop participants want to discuss from their own experience.
  • Preparation to put skills into practice on the 16th and 17th August.

The skills, knowledge and experience gained will be invaluable for anyone working in the creation of spaces or places or environments where there are multiple stakeholders, interests and oppportunities. These methods could be applied to public spaces, multi-day events/festivals, property developments, urban environments, town centres, neighbourhoods scale work, and landscape and architectural projects. This would benefit:

  • Community development professionals,
  • Architects, landscape architects,
  • Planners, Town Planners, Parks managers,
  • Cultural managers, Arts practitioners, artists,
  • Property developers, landholders,
  • Shopping centre or precinct managers,
  • Retailers, Market operators,
  • Facilitators.

Participants in the training are then able to practice their skills as part of two "live" workshops on the 16th and 17th August. Participants would assist CoDesign with running the workshop, while also reinforcing their learning in a practical context

"CoDesign focuses on participatory approaches urban revitalisation that generate high social impact and make neighbourhood improvement faster, more efficient, and more fun. Projects typically include pop up spaces, renewal of under-utilised spaces and community capacity building, as well as a host of built community and landscape infrastructure projects. Our approach has been hugely successful in encouraging communities and stakeholders build the skills and confidence they need to create change, leading to healthier, safer and more inclusive places for everyone."
